Teacher Leadership

I have provided Professional Development for my department, my school, and my network on various topics surrounding literacy and classroom instruction.

English Department Meeting: Improving Small Group Discussions

In 2012, our department was focusing on improving small group discussions about literature in our classrooms. To that end, we shared videos with each other via Teaching Channel, and then engaged in Cognitive Coaching sessions during our department meetings.

In this meeting, we're watching two videos: mine and a camera-shy colleague's.

Staff Meeting: Introduction to Paideia Seminars

In 2014, our staff was working on developing our ability to lead whole class discussion. As part of that development, I presented the Paideia Seminar model by leading the staff in a Paideia Seminar. I believe we learn by doing. I tried to blend the delivery of information about this strategy with practice actually participating in the strategy in order to give my colleagues an idea of what their students would experience in the classroom.

Literacy & the Digital Age: ICE-CAP Conference

In May 2015 I presented a session at the Illinois Computing Educators - Chicago Area Chapter (ICE-CAP) Mini-Conference entitled "Literacy and the Digital Age." In this presentation, I shared some technology integration ideas for ELA classrooms, and worked with teachers as they prepared a lesson using one of the strategies or tools I introduced.

I have since also presented on a variety of technology integration topics for ELA teachers at Chicago Public Schools' Googlepalooza and at our local Tech Talk conference.
